Something about playing Independence seems to bring out the best in Claire Navara.

The Clear Creek Amana scored a career-high for the second time this season against Independence on Friday pouring in 27 points in a 70-34 win in a WAMAC West Division contest in Independence.

Karsyn Stratton had 20 points and Erin Navara and Be DeShaw each had six on Friday as Clear Creek Amana improved to 11-7 on the season and 8-5 in WAMAC West play with its second win over Independence this season.

For the second time this season against the Mustangs, it was all about Claire Navara.

Navara scored a then career-high 19 points in a 70-35 win over Independence on January 12 in Tiffin.

The senior guard had an even better performance on Friday, hitting seven 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 27 points.

Of her 18 made 3-pointers this season 12 have come in the two games against Independence.

Mary Puffett had 11 points for Independence which dropped to 2-17 on the season and 2-10 in WAMAC West Play.

West Branch Closes Conference Play With Win

West Branch will try to end the regular season with a win when it hosts Clear Creek Amana in a non-conference contest next week.

On Friday, the Bears closed out River Valley Conference play in style.

West Branch bounced back from a loss to Class 2A top-ranked Regina on Tuesday with a 70-21 win over West Liberty on Friday in the RVC finale for both teams in West Branch.

Senior Paige Miller led West Branch with 18 points, two rebounds and two steals while Tatum Koenig had 16 points, six assists, three rebounds and three steals.  

Haley Mullinnix had 15 points, six assists and four rebounds as West Branch improved to 12-8 on the season and 11-7 in RVC play.

Allie Waterman added seven points for West Branch.

West Liberty dropped to 0-21 with the loss and finished 0-18 in RVC play.

 

Regina Remains Unbeaten With Win at Camanche

Regina took another step toward a second straight unbeaten regular season on Friday with a 73-57 win road win at Camanche in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup.

Class 2A top-ranked Regina improved to 20-0 on the season and moved to 17-0 in RVC play.

Regina trailed by two midway through the opening quarter but closed on a 16-4 run over the final four minutes to take a 23-13 lead.

Regina stretched the lead to 47-25 at halftime as Mary Crompton scored 17 of her 21 points in the opening half.

Sarah Lehman and Alex Wiese combined for 20 of Regina’s 26 points after halftime as the Regals put the game away.

Wiese finished with a team-high 22 points and seven rebounds and Lehman added 19 points.

Courtney Schnoor had a game-high 25 points to pace Camanche which dropped to 15-7 on the season and 10-7 in RVC play.

City High Rolls on the Road at Waterloo East

City High jumped to a 36-3 lead after the first quarter and rolled to a 91-45 win over Waterloo East in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Waterloo.

Ashley Joens had 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Class 5A No. 5 City High improved to 17-1 on the season and 10-1 in MVC play.

Kenya Earl had 17 points while freshmen Paige Rocca had 16 and Aubrey Joens 15 for City High.

Rose Nkumu chipped in with eight for City High and Sam Greving had seven as the Little Hawks posted a season-high point total in their third straight win.

Amanee Clark had 16 points and Kerris Roberts had 13 for Waterloo East (5-13, 1-9).
