Two Solon senior softball players and one former Spartan locked up their college plans on Wednesday.
Solon seniors Bryn Hanrahan and Tara Lance both signed national letters of intent to continue their softball careers along with former Spartan and current Kirkwood Community College standout Taylor Nearad.
Hanrahan and Nearad both signed with Iowa State on Wednesday while Lance signed with Des Moines Area Community College.
Lance is a four-year letter winner for Solon who head coach Jim White described as a ‘speedy left handed slapper and utility player’.
Hanrahan has been a first or second team all-state selection each of her first four seasons.
The left-handed hitting centerfielder is a career .452 hitter with 231 hits in her prep career.
Hanrahan was a first-team all-conference, all-district and all-state pick last season in Class 3A when she hit .438 with 18 doubles, 42 RBI, 53 runs and 28 stolen bases.
She was named to the 3A all-tournament team while helping Solon to a third-place finish at the state tournament.
A four-year starter during her prep career at Solon, Nearad was the national junior college player of the year last year as a freshman at Kirkwood.
Nearad led the national in hits (145), RBI (129), home runs (30) and runs (114) and ranked third in batting average (.602) in her first season at Kirkwood adding 31 doubles, 11 triples and 34 stolen bases.
