West High senior Oliver Martin can add another accolade to his growing list of career achievements.

One of the most prolific pass catchers in state history, Martin was named a first team all-state selection by the Iowa Newspaper Association for the first time in his career on Tuesday.

Martin headlines a list of four West High players to earn all-state honors after helping the Trojans to a 10-3 record and a spot in the Class 4A title game.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Martin led Class 4A with 85 receptions, 1,272 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions this season and also returned a punt and a kickoff for a score.

Seniors Devontae Lane and Josh Van Roekel were both second team selections while junior Dillon Shephard was named to the 4A third team.

Lane was named to the second team as a defensive back after leading West High with six interceptions.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Lane had 42 tackles and returned one of his interceptions 34 yards for a score.

Naeem Smith runs against Linn-Mar. Tork Mason/For Your Prep Sports.Van Roekel (6-5, 230) was a second-team pick on the offensive line after helping West High average 32 points and 362 yards per game.

Shephard (6-2, 190) was a third team pick on the defensive line after leading West High with 17.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks while ranking fourth on the team with 48 tackles.

City High senior safety Naeem Smith was named to the 4A third team for the second straight season.

Smith (5-11, 176) led the Little Hawks with four interceptions and was second on the team with 51.5 tackles while helping City High to an 8-3 record and a spot in the 4A quarterfinals.
