City High senior center fielder Maeve Obermueller has locked up a decision on her softball future.

Obermueller announced her commitment to Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday with a post on social media.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to Kirkwood Community College to continue my athletic and academic careers,” Obermueller wrote on a post on Instagram. “Thank you to all who have helped me and supported me along this journey and especially thank you to Coach Frese and Coach Austyn for giving me this amazing opportunity.”

Already a four-year starter Obermueller is coming off the best season of her career last fall when she earned Class 5A third team all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Obermueller batted .390 with 15 extra-base hits, two home runs, 36 runs scored and 30 RBI last season.

The left-handed hitting Obermueller posted a .438 on-base percentage and 1.049 OPS.

A career .320 hitter with 147 career hits Obermueller is also a starter on the City High volleyball team.

Kirkwood was 60-7 last season and advanced to the NJCAA DII World Series.
