City High Graduate Mitchell Drafted by Blue Jays in Sixth Round

After starring at City High and the University of Iowa Gable Mitchell has a new baseball home away from Iowa City.
The former City High and Iowa standout infielder was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday.
Mitchell was the 193rd overall pick in the 20-round MLB draft.
As a senior last spring Mitchell helped Iowa to a 33-23 record earning second-team All-Big Ten and All-Big Ten Defensive team honors after starting all 56 games.
Mitchell hit .360 with 59 runs scored and 43 RBI as a senior while committing just one error.
The left-handed hitting Mitchell led the Hawkeyes in runs, walks (31), triples (5) and total bases (122) as a senior while ranking second on the team in hits (82), RBI (43), on-base percentage (.452) and doubles (15).
In his Iowa career Mitchell played in 199 games, making 172 starts and finished his career with 156 runs, 218 hits and 135 RBI.
A multi-sport standout at City High, Mitchell was a first-team all-state selection as a senior after leading the Little Hawks to a 4A state semifinal appearance.
As a senior at City High Mitchell hit .466 with 12 extra-base hits, two home runs 29 RBI and 55 runs scored.
A four-year starter at City High Mitchell was a career .370 hitter as a prep, concluding his career with 157 hits, 147 runs, 94 RBI and 81 stolen bases while helping City High to 97 wins and a pair of state tournament appearances.
