Solon Three Shots Off the Lead After Opening Day at Class 3A State Golf Meet

WATERLOO – Solon shot a 312 on the opening day for the Class 3A state golf meet on Tuesday and sits sixth in the team standings after 18 holes of the two-day, 36-hole event at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.
The Spartans are just three shots off the team led as Knoxville, Ballard and North Polk each shot a 309 on Tuesday and are locked in a three-way tie after 18 holes.
Atlantic and MOC-Floyd Valley are each one stroke off the team lead after shooting an opening-round 310.
Senior Tyler Greazel and sophomore Ryder Laing led Solon on Tuesday’s opening round each shooting a four-over-par 76 and are tied for 12th in the individual standings.
Greazel opened his round with a three-over 39 on the back nine on Tuesday but closed with a one-over-par 37 on the front nine.
Laing opened with a 37 on the back nine, which included an eagle on the par-five 10th hole, and shot a 39 on the front nine to card a 76.
The sophomore had two birdies to go with an eagle on his opening hole of the competition.
Sophomore Owen Heesch shot a 78 for Solon and is currently in a tie for 23rd place while sophomore Kobe Ridout shot an 82 for the Spartans.
Grant Gordon shot an 86 and Nick Stahle an 87 for Solon.
