Boys Golf Roundup: Solon Returns to State Meet With Runner-up Finish at Class 3A District

Solon secured a spot at the Class 3A state tournament with a runner-up finish at the 3A district meet at Gardner Golf Course in Cedar Rapids on Monday.
Sophomores Ryder Laing and Owen Heesch each posted top-10 finishes to lead Solon as the Spartans shot a 306 to finish four strokes in front of third-place Independence.
Marion had three golfers finish in the top four and won the team title with a 297.
Laing shot an even-par 72 to finish runner-up while Heesch shot a three-over-par 75 to finish in eighth-place.
Solon had four golfers shoot 80 or better on Monday as Tyler Greazel finished 22nd overall with a 79 and Nick Stahle was one shot back in 24th place with an 80.
Kobe Ridout shot an 83 and Grant Gordon shot an 84 for the Spartans.
The Class 3A state golf meet in scheduled for May 26-27 at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.
