TIFFIN – The Pacha Relays offered an opportunity for Clear Creek Amana hurdle star Tay Seals to move on from past.
For sophomore distance ace Carson Meskimen the Pacha Relays was a chance to prepare for the future.
Both Clear Creek Amana standouts excelled in those opportunities on Thursday evening.
Seals and Meskimen each posted a pair of individual titles in impressive performances to lift the Clippers to the team title at their own Pacha Relays in Tiffin.
“Coach definitely wanted us to run a lot here in front of the home stands and the parents and friends,” Seals said. “This was a big meet for us in a lot of ways but of course are going to get bigger and bigger and bigger every week.”
For Seals Thursday’s home meet was a chance to officially move on from a fall in the finals of the 110 hurdles at the Drake Relays last week.
Seals impressed in his return, winning the 110 hurdles in a meet record time of 14.1 and added a title in the 200 in 22.28.
“It’s bound to happen, you can’t let one bad race define everything,” Seals said of the Drake Relays. “You just have to flush it and move on to the next. You always you to think there is another race. There is another chance to get better.”
Seals added a runner-up finish in the 100 in a time of 10.98 in a near full day of work for the junior standout.
“I was a little awkward in the 100 but I am dealing with a little hip problem right now,” Seals said. “I am not disappointed with it but I am definitely not ecstatic about it. Coming off a heavy weekend at Drake that I think that’s a pretty decent mark for me.”
Meskimen was equally impressive on Thursday as he prepped for a potential heavy workload at the state qualifying meet next month.
The sophomore swept the distance events on Thursday and also ran a leg on the Clippers’ winning 4×800 relay team.
“Coach was talking to me about it this week and he really thought this was what we needed to do for the state qualifier so I wanted to go test it out and see how it works,” Meskimen said. “I took it on as a challenge and I am just grateful he was able to put me in these events.”
Meskimen won the 3,200 in a time of 10:07.06 and shortly after ran a leg on the Clipper 4×800 relay team that won in 8:18.96.
Meskimen closed the evening by winning the 1,600 in a meet-record time of 4:25.15.
“I think I held up pretty well,” Meskimen said. “I tried to just stay off my feet and stay loose as much as possible between races. I was pretty impressed with what I was able to do.”
The big days from Seals and Meskimen helped Clear Creek Amana claim the team title with 142 points, 29 more than runner-up Benton Community.
Regina was third with 89 points.
Clear Creek Amana added titles in the sprint medley, distance medley, 4×200 and 4×400 relays on its way to the team crown.
“I think we are in a really good spot,” Seals said. “We are in a great position as a team.”
Regina got a title from Edwin Gangba in the 100 in a time of 10.96 and added a title in the 4×100 relay in 43.85.
The Clear Creek Amana girls finished runner-up with 141.5 points as Williamsburg won the team title with 186.
Regina was fifth with 67 points.
Clear Creek Amana was led by freshman Alison Seidl who won the 1,500 in 5:03.17 and the 3,000 in 11:10.31 and also anchored the Clipper distance medley relay team to a win in 4:26.88.
The Clippers added titles in the sprint medley, shuttle hurdle and 4×200 relays.
