DES MOINES – It’s easy for a wrestler to say a match at the state wrestling tournament is just another match.

It’s much harder to actually perform on the state’s biggest stage in front of thousands of fans.

Solon sophomore Anderson Osgood made it all look easy in his state meet debut on Thursday.

Osgood posted a 20-3 tech fall win over Weston Drahos of Williamsburg in a 106-pound second round match on the opening day for the Class 2A state meet at Casey’s Center in Des Moines.

“It was a big moment getting out there for the first time but you have to treat it like any other match,” Osgood said. “It’s just going out there and competing no matter what the stage is, no matter who the guy is.”

Second-ranked Osgood (43-3) racked up six takedowns and needed 4:17 to earn the tech fall win over Drahos in Thursday’s second round.

Osgood scored a pair of takedowns in the opening period while building a 6-1 lead and tacked on three more takedowns in the second period before ending the match with a takedown early in the third.

“I wanted to get a lot of takedowns during that match to get my motor going because sometimes that first match you aren’t ready to go,” Osgood said. “I feel like I wrestled good and I was able to get to my attacks well.”

Osgood will face sixth-ranked Ace Cochrane (45-7) of Glenwood in a 2A quarterfinal on Friday in a session that begins at 9 a.m.

“It feels good,” Osgood said. “It’s another match but it’s nice to be here and nice to be competing on this stage.”

Osgood will be joined in the 2A quarterfinals by junior 285-pounder Lucas Feuerbach.

Second-ranked Feuerbach (44-2) opened his quest for a second consecutive state title match appearance with a first-period pin of Iowa Falls junior Trayvahn Williams in a second-round match.

Feuerbach needed just 22 seconds to pin of Williams and return to the 2A quarterfinals where he will face seventh-ranked Drake Buthe (49-4) of Glenwood.

Led by Osgood and Feuerbach Solon sent three wrestlers to Friday’s second session.

Senior 165-pounder Teague Williams won a consolation match on Thursday to join Osgood and Feuerbach in advancing to Friday.

Williams dropped his opener 17-2 to seventh-ranked Taevyn Zinnel of Algona but responded with an 18-9 major decision over Camanche’s Olyver Fuller.
