Liberty High and Regina Put Players on IFCA All-State Teams Following Runner-up Finishes

Liberty High and Regina each had their seasons conclude last week with runner-up finishes in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.
On Tuesday both teams had individuals recognized for the role they played in the success of their teams.
Class 5A runner-up Liberty High had seven players earn all-state honors and 1A runner-up Regina had 10 all-state selections while the Iowa Football Coaches Association released its postseason awards.
The seven Liberty High all-state selections included three first-team selections and was highlighted by senior quarterback Reece Rettig who was named Class 5A player of the year.
Rettig was 21-4 in two seasons as a starter leading Liberty High to the first two semifinal appearances in program history.
This season Rettig completed 71 percent of his passes (239-of-335) while passing for 2,465 yards and 22 touchdowns and also rushed for a team-high 908 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Rettig led Class 5A in both total offense and total touchdowns while leading the Lightning to the first state title game appearance in program history.
Senior defensive back Logan Laubenthal and senior linebacker Landon Bell were each named to the Class 5A first team defense.
Bell led Liberty High in tackles (75), solo tackles (51), tackles for loss (18.5) and sacks (4.5) and recovered a fumble.
Laubenthal earned first-team all-state honors after leading the Lightning with three interceptions and 13 pass breakups to go with 12.5 tackles.
Seniors Jordan Schroeder and Jaryn Sertterh and junior Pryor Reiners were all second-team selections in Class 5A.
Sertterh was a second-team selection as an offensive lineman after anchoring a Liberty High front that helped pave the way for the Lightning to average 37.1 points and 401 total yards per game.
Reiners was a second-team pick as an offensive utility player after catching a team-high 55 passes for 631 yards and seven touchdowns and rushing for 170 yards and a touchdown.
Schroeder was a second-team selection as a punter after averaging 41.9 yards per punt on 17 punts.
Junior Adrian Clerry was an honorable mention selection after ranking fifth on the team with 28 tackles to go with two interceptions and catching 40 passes for 357 yards and four touchdowns.
Regina had 10 players named to the Class 1A all-state teams after going 12-1 and finishing runner-up with a loss to West Lyon in the state title game.
The Regals had nine first-team selections including six on offense.
Senior quarterback Kyle Tracy was a first-team pick after completed 73 percent of his passes (124-of-169) while passing for 2,317 yards and 35 touchdowns while rushing for 616 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Junior Savion Miller was a first team selection at running back after rushing for a team-high 1,068 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 8.4 yards per carry while catching 16 passes for Tate Wallace was a first-team pick at tight end after leading the Regals with 40 receptions for 611 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Senior Noah Horner and junior Porter Shetler were each first-team selections on the offensive line after helping Regina average 47 points and 385 total yards per game.
Sophomore Gabriel Hegelheimer was a first-team pick at kicker after going 4-of-4 on field goal attempts with a long of 38 and converting all 62 PAT attempts.
Will Litton, Luke Hamilton and Andrew Greve were all first-team picks on the defensive side of the ball.
Litton was a first-team selection on the defensive line after making 37.5 tackles with 12.5 for loss and five sacks to go with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Hamilton was a first-team selection as a linebacker after leading the Regals with 55 tackles including 8.5 tackles for loss and two sacks to go with a fumble recovery and an interception.
Greve was a first-team pick at defensive back after leading Regina with eight interceptions while making 20.5 tackles with two for loss and recovering a fumble.
Senior James Whisler was a second-team pick at linebacker after making 42 tackles including five for loss and adding an interception.
West High had four players earn all-state honors in Class 5A following an 8-3 season that included a trip to the 5A quarterfinals.
Seniors Colin Whitters, Ethan Headings and Julian Manson were all first team picks while senior Campbell Janis earned honorable mention status.
An Iowa commit, Whitters was a first-team selection as an offensive lineman after paving the way for the Trojans to average 39.4 points and 405 total yards per game.
Headings was a first-team selection at wide receiver after hauling in 56 passes for 1,202 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging 21.5 yards per catch.
Manson, also an Iowa recruit, was a first-team pick at linebacker after leading West High with 67 tackles including six tackles for loss.
Janis earned honorable mention honors after rushing for a team-high 1,338 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 7.2 yards per carry.
Three Clear Creek Amana players earned all-state honors in Class 4A after the Clippers finished 4-5.
Senior Conlan Poynton was a first-team offensive utility selection, Aidan Schrock was a second team defensive utility pick and Wyatt Key was a second team punter.
Poynton passed for 758 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for a team-high 582 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Schrock led Clear Creek Amana with 61.5 tackles including 39 solo stops, five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, forced a fumble and had an interception.
Key averaged 36.2 yards per punt on 19 attempts.
Solon had 11 players named to the 3A all-state team following an 11-1 season that included a trip to the semifinals.
Eli Kampman was a first-team pick at quarterback after passing for 2,230 yards and 29 touchdowns and rushing for 488 yards and five touchdowns.
Junior Maddox Kelley was a first-team pick at receiver after leading the Spartans with 50 receptions for 702 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushing for 371 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Kyler Jensen was a first-team selection at linebacker after leading the Spartans with 71 tackles including 10.5 for loss and junior Lucas Feuerbach was a first-team pick at defensive line after making 53 tackles with 12 for loss and four sacks.
Collin McKie was a first-team pick at punter after averaging 43.4 yards per punt on 20 attempts.
Kade Hoeper was a second team selection at wide receiver after making 42 receptions for 691 yards and nine touchdowns and junior Bradyn Schnoor was a second team pick as an offensive lineman.
James Thomsen was a second-team pick at defensive line after making 39 tackles with 12.5 for loss and 5.5 sacks and Ethan Ulch was a second-team pick as a defensive back after picking off three passes, recovering two fumbles and making 30.5 tackles.
Ryan Locke was a second team pick at place kicker after going 6-of-11 on field goal attempts with a long of 42 and connecting on 48-of-49 PAT attempts.
Junior Cody Milliman caught 35 passes for 516 yards and four touchdowns on his way to earning honorable mention honors.
West Branch had a trio of players earn all-state honors in Class 2A.
Senior Ohio recruit Michael Montgomery was a second-team selection as an offensive lineman and junior Keaton Gates was a second-team pick at running back after rushing for 1,289 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Senior Griffin Seydel was a second-team pick at defensive back after making 25 tackles with three for loss while leading the Bears with six interceptions.
