The 2024-2025 season was a memorable one for teams in the Your Prep Sports area.

If the preseason rankings are any indication of what is to come this winter some of the best basketball in the state will be played in the Your Prep Sports area.

Six area teams landed in the preseason girls basketball rankings released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Wednesday afternoon.

State qualifiers from last season Liberty High and Regina are among six area teams ranked in the top-15 in their respective classes joining West High, City High, Solon and Clear Creek Amana as area teams that enter the season ranked.

Coming off the first state tournament berth in program history Liberty High (17-7) is ranked fifth in the Class 5A preseason rankings followed closely by West High (15-9) at number six.

City High (16-8) is ninth in the Class 5A rankings just in front of Mississippi Valley Conference rival Cedar Rapids Washington.

Cedar Rapids Prairie is fourth giving the MVC half of the Class 5A top 10.

Clear Creek Amana (15-8) is fourth in the Class 4A rankings while Solon (12-11) is No. 12 in 4A after moving up from Class 3A.

Regina (24-2) opens the season ranked No. 12 in Class 2A

Top-ranked teams to open the season are Johnston in Class 5A, Dallas Center-Grimes in Class 4A, Maquoketa in Class 3A, Hinton in Class 2A and Council Bluffs St. Albert in Class 1A.
