West Branch Rolls Past Monticello in District Opener

West Branch bounced back from its first loss of the season last week with a 49-point win over Camanche in its non-district finale.
The Bears kept that momentum rolling on Friday in their district opener.
West Branch jumped to a 28-0 halftime lead and rolled to a 48-7 win over Monticello in the Class 2A, District 5 opener for both teams at the Little Rose Bowl in West Branch.
Brennen Dale threw two touchdown passes and also ran for two touchdowns as West Branch improved to 3-1 on the season.
Dale had touchdown passes to Nolan Staker and Conner Capper and Cooper Gates rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns as West Branch racked up 337 yards of total offense.
Dale had all four of his touchdowns in the first half staking West Branch to a 28-0 halftime cushion.
Capper opened the scoring when he scored on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dale in the opening period.
Dale made it 14-0 when he scored on a 47-yard run and added a 5-yard scoring run to push the lead to 21-0.
It was 28-0 West Branch at intermission after Dale found Staker for a 13-yard touchdown.
Gates scored on touchdown runs of 75 and 24 yards in the second half and Gabe Depoorter added a 1-yard touchdown run.
Gates also had a team-high five tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks while Michael Montgomery added 3.5 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss.
West Branch forced five Monticello turnovers in the win, intercepting four passes and recovering a fumble.
Staker picked off two passes while Dale and Griffin Seydel each had an interception and Olivier Trepanier recovered a fumble.
