Top-Ranked Clear Lake Pulls Away From Solon in Substate Title Game

For the fourth time in the past five season Solon came up one win shy of a trip to the state tournament.
Solon fell to top-ranked Clear Lake 58-29 on Monday in the Class 3A, Substate 3 title game on Monday in Clear Lake.
Clear Lake improved to 24-0 on the season while advancing to the state tournament for the first time since 2021.
Solon had an eight-game winning streak snapped with the loss and closed the season 18-6.
Clear Lake snapped a 15-all tie with 4:08 remaining in the opening half with a 11-2 run to close the half that gave the Lions a 26-17 halftime lead.
The Lions outscored Solon 32-12 in the second half, limiting the Spartans to just three third-quarter points.
The 29 points were a season-low for Solon and were 11 fewer than the previous low output for the Spartans in a loss to Mount Vernon back on December 17.
Iowa football recruit Thomas Meyer had a game-high 15 points to lead three Clear Lake players in double figures.
Titan Schmitt had 13 points and Carson Riser had 11 points for the Lions while Trevor Theobald added eight points for Clear Lake.
Sophomore Grant Gordon had eight points to lead Solon while seniors Isaiah Zoske and Caleb Bock each had five points for Solon.
