Wrestling Roundup: West Branch Crowns Three Champions in Third-Place Finish at RVC Meet

West Branch crowned three champions while posting its second consecutive third-place finish at the River Valley Conference meet on Saturday at West Liberty High School.
The Bears had five finalists and seven wrestlers finish in the top three among its 10 medalists on Saturday while racking up 168 team points.
Class 1A third-ranked Wilton had three champions among seven finalists and won the team title with 223.5 points while Anamosa had three champions and finished runner-up for the second year in a row.
Regina got an individual title from Porter Shetler at 215 pounds and a runner-up finish from Leren Fernandez while placing fifth with 104 points.
West Branch got titles from the trio of Ethan Humphrey, Cash Hatfield and Cooper Gates while finishing third for the second year in a row.
Humphrey (16-2) on the 106-pound title with a pin of Maquoketa’s Tayden Howell in the championship match.
Sixth-ranked Hatfield (18-2) won the 144-pound title with an impressive 15-6 major decision over seventh-ranked Jordan Dusenberry of Wilton in the championship match.
Class 1A No. 10 ranked Gates (28-4) won a 11-4 decision over 2A fourth-ranked Ryker Dengler of West Liberty in the 165-pound title match.
West Branch got runner-up finishes from Keaton Gates (29-14) at 150 pounds and Tate Frantz (30-8) at 190 pounds.
Teague Thomas (23-13) was third at 113 pounds and Logan Christoffel (28-11) was third at 132 pounds for the Bears.
Jerricho Hobbs placed fifth at 215 while Gabe Depoorter was sixth at 126 and Maddux Rushton was sixth at 157 for West Branch.
Regina had a strong day led by the title from Shetler at 215 pounds.
Shetler (31-9) won a 4-1 decision over Logan Bell of Anamosa in the championship match.
Fernandez (34-6) finished runner-up at 175 pounds for Regina falling to Class 2A fifth-ranked Ayden Antonelli of Anamosa in the championship match.
Huck Zahasky finished fifth for Regina at 106 pounds, Luke Hamilton was fifth at 138 pounds, James Whisler was fifth at 165 pounds and Simon Shetler was fifth at 285 pounds.
Kaleb Moeller was sixth at 144 pounds for the Regals.
