Solon enjoyed some nice early-season weather and its first invitational title of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans had four players finish in the top five and ran away with the team title at the seven-team Benton Community Invitational on a sunny but windy day at Tara Hills Golf Course in Van Horne.

Rylie Greazel earned individual medalist honors and Sydney Dee, Jaya Farlinger and Bailey Woolley all posted top-five finishes as the Spartans shot a 385 to finish 30 strokes in front of host Benton Community.

“We were very excited to see the sun shining and be on the course,” Solon coach Curtis Hendrickson said. “The weather this year so far has been challenging.  The wind was the main challenge today, I would say it was 25mph for most of the day.  We are happy with our team score for the first meet of the year.  Now we have a baseline that we can work to lower.”
Independence was third with a 428 followed by Vinton-Shellsburg with a 472 and Postville with a 505.

Greazel shot a 46 on both the opening nine and the final nine to finish with a 92, one stroke better than Center Point-Urbana’s Addison Weber and teammate Sydney Dee who each shot 93.

Farlinger and Wooley each shot 100 for Solon to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Peyton Pentico shot a 108 and Emma Phelps a 109 for Solon.
