In its first game of the new year Solon its old winning streak alive.

Class 3A fourth-ranked Solon had three players score in double figures in a 72-59 win over Maquoketa on Thursday in a non-conference contest in Maquoketa.

Solon improved to 8-0 on the season with the win while Maquoketa dropped to 6-3.

Vince Steinbrech had a game-high 24 points to lead Solon while Jake Benzing added 17 for the Spartans.

Gehrig Turner had 11 points for Solon and Jackson Link and Rylen Stiegelmeyer each had six.

Tyler Hinz led Maquoketa with 16 points and Tye Hardin had 13 for the Cardinals.
