City High won three events and had seven automatic state qualifiers at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at North Scott High School in Eldridge on Thursday.

Ani Wedemeyer and Eva Reynolds each won individual titles and the Little Hawks won the 4×400 relay while finishing third in the team standings with 125 points.

Pleasant Valley won the team title with 203 points followed by Bettendorf with 130.

Wedemeyer earned spots at the 4A state meet that begins on May 18 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines in both the 400 and 800 with top-two finishes and anchored the City High 4×400 relay to a win.

Wedemeyer won the 400 in 58.18 and was runner-up in the 800 in a time of 2:15.72.

The sophomore standout joined Ruth Cloyd, Josephine LeClair and Lucy Thompson won the 4×400 relay team that won in 4:01.21.

Reynolds won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:05.11 to secure a spot at the state meet.

Wedemeyer, Reynolds, Safia Almabrazi and Emily Arling combined to finish runner-up in the sprint medley in 1:49.48 and the City High distance medley relay team of LeClair, Cloyd, Reynolds and Nina Peterson was second in 4:17.76.

Cloyd finished runner-up in the long jump with a mark of 16-10 ¼ to earn an automatic spot at the state meet.
