Boys Track and Field Roundup: West Branch Makes Big Leap With Sixth-place Finish at RVC Meet

A year ago West Branch made a slight jump in the River Valley Conference meet standings going from 13th in 2021 to 11th last season.
On Thursday the Bears made a big leap forward.
Bolstered by a win in the 4×100 relay West Branch finished sixth at the River Valley Conference meet at Tipton City Park.
West Branch had top-five finishes in five relays and got third-place finishes from Reese Trepanier in the shot put and Evan Striegel in the 200 while racking up 51 points.
Last season West Branch had 27 points while finishing 11th.
Anamosa won the team title with 97 points followed by host Tipton with 90 and Northeast with 59.
Durant finished fourth with 55.5 points, Maquoketa was fifth with 54.5 and Mid-Prairie tied with West Branch for sixth with 51 points.
Regina finished 14th with 23 points.
The West Branch 4×100 team of Carver Boelk, Zach Walker, Wyatt Fiderlein and Striegel provided the highlight of the night for the Bears winning in 43.57.
West Branch was third in the 200 with the same group clocking a 1:32.75.
The Bears added a fourth-place finish in the distance medley and fifth-place efforts in the 4×400 and 4×800.
Striegel finished third in the 200 in a time of 23.22 while Trepanier was third in the shot put with a mark of 43-2 ½.
Regina was led by Drew Streb who finished runner-up in the discus with a toss of 146-8.
Alex Jensen finished fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 400 and Samuel Welter was sixth in the 800.
