Girls Cross Country Roundup: West High Finishes Fifth, Liberty High Sixth at Class 4A State Qualifier

West High finished fifth and Liberty High was sixth at the Class 4A state qualifying meet at the Dubuque Cross Country Course on Wednesday in Dubuque.
Top-ranked Dubuque Hempstead had the top four finishers and won the team title with 18 points while third-ranked Dubuque Senior was runner-up with 45 points.
No. 14 Cedar Falls secured the final spot at the 4A state meet next week in Fort Dodge with a third place finish with 82 points.
West High was fifth with 138 points and Liberty High was sixth with 181.
Freshman Kate Van Waning led West High finishing 18th in a time of 19:49.
Erinn Varga was 21st in 20:01, Cindy Wang was 27th in 20:11 and Gabby Moniza was 32nd in 20:29 for the Trojans.
Clara Welch placed 31st to lead Liberty High finishing in a time of 20:25.
Malia Taylor finished 33rd in 20:30, Mimi Marquardt was 37th in 20:47 and Madelyn Johnson placed 39th in 20:50 for Liberty High.
