Girls Cross Country Roundup: Solon Opens Season With Win at Anamosa Invite

Defending 3A state champion Solon opened the season on Saturday the same way it ended last year – by winning a meet.
Class 3A top-ranked Solon had five runners in the top 15 led by individual champion Kayla Young and rolled to the team title at the Anamosa Invite on Saturday morning in Anamosa.
Solon finished with 39 points to easily outdistance Washington which finished runner-up with 67 points.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy was third with 101 followed by Union with 125 and Cedar Rapids Xavier with 132.
Young won the individual title in a time of 19:45.7 finishing nearly exactly a minute in front of runner-up Iris Dahl from Washington who was second in 20:45.6.
Mary Fiala placed fifth in a time of 21:05.5 and Anna Quillin was seventh in 21:22.3 as the Spartans had a trio of top-10 finishers.
Gracie Federspiel was 11th in 21:55.7 and Lydia Hogan placed 15th in 22:17.6.
