Once the Your Prep Sports area was home to some of the best soccer in the state.
Four Your Prep Sports area teams advanced to substate title games this season with West High returning to the Class 3A state tournament.
The annual Your Prep Sports boys soccer team honors some of the top players responsible for the success of area teams.
The fifth edition of the Your Prep Sports boys soccer team features players from seven area teams and includes all-conference and all-state performers, state qualifiers and school record holders.
West High junior Michael Nelson is the captain of the 2022 Your Prep Sports area team after setting a single season school record with 36 goals while helping the Trojans to an 18-3 mark and a spot in the 3A state quarterfinals.

Junior, West High
Among the most dynamic players in the state Nelson followed up a stellar debut campaign with a brilliant junior season in which he set a West High single season record for goals while leading the Trojans to the 3A state tournament.
Nelson ranked third in the state with a school-record 36 goals and added seven assists on his way to earn first team MVC all-division honors and a second team Class 3A all-state pick by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
In two varsity season Nelson has accounted for 50 goals and 12 assists.
Dillon Bruck
Senior, Solon
A two-time all-state selection Bruck produced one of best individual seasons in Solon program history as a senior.
Bruck ranked fifth in the state and second in Class 2A with 35 goals, breaking the Solon single season scoring record of 33 previously held by Marshall Koehn.
A second-team all-state selection in Class 2A, Bruck added four assists while helping Solon to a 16-3 record and a spot in the Class 2A substate finals.
Peyton Miller
Senior, West Branch
One of the most prolific scorers in the state over the past two seasons Miller capped an impressive career with a stellar senior season.
Miller ranked seventh in the state and third in Class 1A with 34 goals to go with a team-high 11 assists on his way to earning first-team all-state honors in Class 1A from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
A two-time all-state selection, Miller closed his prep career with 81 goals and 28 assists in three seasons.
Aaron Rutherford
Senior, City High
A stalwart in the City High lineup the past two seasons Rutherford cemented his status as one of the top players in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Rutherford earned first team all-MVC divisional honors for the second consecutive season and was a Class 3A honorable mention all-state selection by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association following a stellar senior season.
Jaxyn Logan
Senior, Liberty High
In his third season in goal for the Lightning Logan strengthened his resume as one of the best keepers in the state.
Logan earned first-team MVC all-Mississippi Division honors for the second consecutive season after making 62 saves while allowing just seven goals while posting 13 shutouts this season.
A Class 3A second-team all-state selection from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association Logan helped Liberty High to a 15-4 record and a spot in the 3A substate final.
Kaleab Wendy
Sophomore, Regina
A talented finisher Wendy is well on his way to becoming the next great goal scorer at Regina.
Wendy followed up an impressive debut campaign in which he scored 16 goals and added 10 assists by leading the Regals with 15 goals this season as a sophomore.
He also added four assists while helping the Regals to a 10-12 record against a schedule loaded with opponents from larger classes.
Miguel Cohen-Suarez
Senior, West High
A threat all over the field from his position in the midfield Cohen-Suarez teamed with Nelson to give the Trojans one of the most dangerous combinations in the state.
Cohen-Suarez earned first-team MVC all-divisional honors after posting nine goals and six assists while helping the Trojans to an MVC divisional title, an 18-3 record and a spot at the Class 3A state tournament.
William Wittich
Senior, Solon
Like his teammate Bruck, Wittich took his game to another level as a senior while helping Solon to one of the most successful seasons in recent history.
Wittich had a career-high 13 goals and led Solon with 10 assists on his way to earning honorable mention Class 2A all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Gabe Bormann
Junior, Clear Creek Amana
Bormann burst onto the prep scene last season scoring two goals and leading Clear Creek Amana with seven assists and asserted himself offensively as a sophomore leading the Clippers in goals in 2022.
The junior had a team-high seven goals in 16 matches this spring helping Clear Creek Amana to a 6-12 record.
Jacob Eisenberg
Senior, City High
Another senior leader for the Little Hawks Eisenberg had the best season of his prep career this spring while helping City High to an 11-6 record and a spot in the Class 3A substate title game.
Eisenberg was a first team MVC all-Mississippi Division pick as a senior.
Nick McDonnell
Senior, West High
A two-year starter in goal for the Trojans McDonnell was at his best as a senior when he earned first-team MVC all-Valley Division honors and was named an honorable mention all-state pick in Class 3A by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
McDonnell made 61 saves and allowed just 10 goals this season while helping West High post an 18-3 record that included nine shutouts.
Gage Gingerich
Senior, West Branch
A strong compliment to the explosive Miller in the West Branch attack Gingerich had the best season of his prep career as a senior.
Gingerich scored 11 goals and ranked second on the team with seven assists while helping West Branch to a 13-3 record.
The strong season earned Gingerich Class 1A honorable mention all-state honors from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Joslin Gembo
Senior, Liberty High
After posting three goals and one assist in his first two varsity seasons Gembo flourished in his senior season leading the Lightning in assists and ranking third on the team in goals.
Gembo scored 10 goals and had a team-high 10 assists this season on his way to earning first team MVC all-Mississippi Division honors and honorable mention Class 3A all-state status from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Benjamin Horwitz
Senior, City High
A leader for City High on the field this season Horwitz was another Little Hawk to earn first team MVC all-Mississippi Division honors this spring.
Horwitz was a key part of helping City High to its 11-6 record that included a 1-0 loss to Johnston in the Class 3A substate title game.
Adarsh Khullar
Sophomore, West High
A key member of the West High back row that helped the Trojans limit opponents to 18 goals this season Khullar emerged as a force at the center back spot.
Khullar had two assists and helped West High to an 18-3 record on his way to earning first team MVC all Valley Division honors.
Evan Lacina
Junior, Regina
Lacina made the most of his increased role in the Regina attack this season ranking third on the team in goals and second in assists.
The junior had four goals and four assists for the Regals helping Regina to a 10-12 mark against an always challenging schedule.
Amah Ajavon
Senior, Liberty High
Ajavon played a key role in Liberty High enjoying the best season in program history this spring leading the Lightning in goals and ranking second on the team in assists.
A first team MVC all-Mississippi Division selection, Ajavon had a team-high 15 goals this season and added six assists while leading Liberty High to a 15-4 record and a spot in the Class 3A substate title game.
