Softball Roundup: Sixth-ranked Regina Rallies Past West Branch in Extra Innings

Regina scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning and held off a late West Branch rally in the bottom of the inning to earn a 6-5 come-from-behind win over the Bears in a River Valley Conference South Division contest on Wednesday in West Branch.
Class 2A No. 6 Regina improved to 13-9 on the season and 6-4 in conference play with the win while West Branch dropped to 3-16 and 0-12.
Avery Kies plated the go-ahead run with a two-out double in the top of the eighth and Emma Nibaur added a single to score Kies to give Regina a 6-4 lead.
Lanie Meyer led off the West Branch eighth with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Iva Senio.
The Bears had runners on second and third with two out but Nibaur got a strikeout to end the game.
Nibaur earned the win for Regina allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out 10 and walking one and also went 4-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Regals.
Courtney Kessler was 2-for-4 with a double and Jillian Panther was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kies, Morgan Gahan and Laci Chambliss all had hits and scored runs for Regina.
Hannah Schiele had a three-run home run for West Branch in the first inning and tossed a complete game, allowing six runs, two earned, on 12 hits while striking out three and walking three.
Lexi Klinkkamer went 3-for-4 with an RBI for West Branch while Meyer had two hits and scored two runs.
Juliana Laing had two hits while Wehde had a hit and Alyse Klinkkammer and Kylie Pickett each scored a run for the Bears.
