Ronan Poynton felt the anxiety and the pressure of a wrestle back last season while earning his first appearance at the state wrestling meet.

There was no such drama for Poynton on Saturday as the Regina junior locked up his return trip to Wells Fargo Arena.

Poynton posted a pair of impressive wins on his way to a district title on Saturday as Regina qualified three wrestlers for the Class 1A state meet at the District 7 meet at Wapello.

Ninth-ranked Poynton (34-5) post a pin and a major decision on his way to the district title emerging from a bracket with a trio of ranked wrestlers.

Poynton pinned No. 12 Brant Tedrow (25-9) of Van Buren in 5:56 in the semifinals and secured a second consecutive state meet appearance with an 11-2 major decision over Lisbon sophomore Indy Ferguson in the final.

Ferguson defeated No. 11 Trent Wilkerson of New London 2-1 in the other semifinal and earned the second state tournament berth.

Seniors Aidan Udell and Sam Aitchison each earned return trips to the state meet with runner-up finishes.

A three-time qualifier, Udell (33-3) was runner-up at 170 pounds falling to third-ranked Max Kohl (39-3) of Lisbon for the second week in a row in the title match.

Aitchison (36-6) won back-to-back one-point decisions following a semifinal defeat to finish runner-up at 160 pounds.

No. 12 Cade Molyneux (42-6) of Sigourney pinned Aitchison in 4:34 in the semifinals on his way to the 160-pound title.

Aitchison responded by winning an 11-10 decision over Connor Golston (36-8) of Moravia.

He then recorded two takedowns and a reversal in the opening two periods and used a late escape with 21 seconds remaining to edge Kendal Pugh of Louisa-Muscatine 9-8 in the wrestle back match.

Junior Chrisopher Waikel (30-12) finished third at 182 pounds for the Regals and senior Caden Shetler (30-16) was third at 220.
