One of the biggest reasons the expectations for West High are high entering the 2021 football season is the talent returning on the offensive line.
The biggest of those returners and one of the best senior linemen in the state has made a decision on his college future before the start of his final prep season.
West High all-stater Liam Becher announced his verbal commitment to the University of North Dakota on Saturday with a post on social media.
“First I want to thank the man upstairs for giving me the skills to play the sport I love, secondly I want to thank my mom and dad for their endless support and love through all the years, lastly I want to thank all my coaches, Garrett Hartwig, Josh Flammang, Barry Westemeyer and the rest of the West High football staff, also big shutout to JC Moreau and all the coaches who have recruited me throughout this process,” Becher wrote on Twitter. “With that being said, I am committed to the University of North Dakota.”
The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Becher was an anchor on the West High offensive line last season helping the Trojans to a 6-1 record and a spot in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
A third-team all-state selection by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association last season Becher helped West High average more than 37 points and 385 yards of total offense per game.
Becher picked North Dakota over an offer from Illinois State and several Division II programs.
Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and went 5-2 during the 2021 spring season falling to James Madison in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs.
