Softball Roundup: West Branch Advances to Regional Quarterfinal With Win Over North Cedar

It is survive and advance time for prep softball teams with the start of the postseason.
West Branch was among those teams that extended its season on the opening day of regional play on Monday.
The Bears scored four second-inning runs and never let North Cedar pull even in a 7-4 win over the Knights in a Class 2A, Region 7 quarterfinal in West Branch.
West Branch improved to 16-15 with the win and will travel to Letts on Wednesday to face third-ranked Louisa-Muscatine (19-8) in a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m.
North Cedar closed the season 6-19.
Nicki Henson had two hits and scored two runs for West Branch while Kya Montgomery had two hits including a double and scored two runs.
Lexie Peak drove in three runs and scored a run while Bailey Donohoe had a hit and scored a run.
Addie Wehde and Lexi Klinkkammer each doubled for West Branch while Hannah Schiele earned the win in the circle for the Bears.
