City High bounced back from a pair of losses at tenth-ranked Dubuque Hempstead on Monday with a doubleheader sweep of Western Dubuque on Wednesday at Farley Community Park in Farley.

Class 4A seventh-ranked City High won the opener 13-2 in six innings and took the nightcap 5-1 while improving to 23-9 on the season and 19-5 in Mississippi Valley Conference play.

Western Dubuque had a four-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-14 on the season and 8-12 in MVC games.

City High scored 10 runs on five hits in the first inning of the opener and never trailed in the doubleheader.

The first six City High batters reached base in the 10-run first inning, including four on base hits, as the Little Hawks set the tone early.

Gable Mitchell and Cedric Dunnwald each had RBI singles in during the 10-run outburst and Joey Bouska led off the inning with a double and later had a two-run single as the Little Hawks 13 batters to the plate.

Freshman Jake Mitchell earned the win allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one in six innings.

Dunnwald went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead City High while Bouska and Carter Seaton each had two hits. Bouska drove in two runs and scored two runs, Seaton scored twice and drive in a run.

Gable Mitchell had a hit and drove in two runs, Jacob Williamson had a hit and drove in three runs and Jacob Means had a hit, scored two runs and drove in a run.

John Klosterman had had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run and Gavin Koch scored a run and drove in a run.

Seaton picked up in the win in the nightcap allowing one unearned run on five hits in a complete game.

The junior right-hander struck out two and walked two and also went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Klosterman had two hits and drove in two runs and Ben Kueter had a hit and scored twice.

Gable Mitchell had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run and Bouska had a hit and scored a run.
