Softball Roundup: Second-ranked Wilton Wins a Pair of One-run Games Over Regina

Class 2A second-ranked Wilton pushed its winning streak to a season-long 11 games with a pair of one-run wins over Regina on Monday in a River Valley Conference South Division doubleheader in Wilton.
Wilton won the opener 2-1 and took the nightcap 5-4 to improve to 20-3 on the season and a perfect 14-0 in RVC play.
Regina dropped to 13-10 on the year and 10-4 in conference play with the losses.
The Regals outhit Wilton eight to five in the opener but Chloe Wells hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead.
That was enough for sophomore Grace Madlock who earned the win allowing one run on eight hits while striking out five.
Madlock outdueled Regina’s Emma Nibaur who allowed two runs on five hits and struck out one and walked one in six innings.
Courtney Kessler and Abby Clark each had two hits for Regina in game one while Baylee O’Connor had a hit and scored a run and Jaelynn Ernst had an RBI.
Wilton used a four-run third inning to take a 5-2 lead in the nightcap and held on for the sweep.
Nibaur took the loss allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out three.
Kessler went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and Niabuar doubled twice and scored two runs.
Annie Gahan and Kate Milder each had a hit and drove in a run while O’Connor had a hit and scored a run.
