It was a happy ride home for the West High boys track team on Thursday.

West High won eight events and had five runner-up finishes while rolling to the team title at the Comet Early Bird in Conrad.

Mason Applegate won both the 100 and 200 and was runner-up in the shot put and West High won three relays while racking up 161 points to easily outdistance the 10-team field.

Iowa Falls was second with 84 points followed by host BCLUW with 79 and Jesup with 74.

Applegate won the 100 in 11.07 and the 200 in 22.77 and added a runner-up finish in the shot put with a toss of 48-1.

West High did much of its damage on the track on Thursday with Mason Van Waning winning the 800 in 2:16.41 and Jason Lu taking the 400 hurdle title in a time of 59.29.

Drew Peterson won the 3,200 in 10:48.38 and was second in the 1,600 in 5:10.69 while teammate Alex Wang was runner-up in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600.

West High won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:09.65 and the distance medley in 4:02.8 and also collected a win in the 4×200 in 1:37.96.

Daquan Johnson was runner-up in the high jump and West High was second in the 4×800 relay.
