Wrestling Roundup: Regina Crowns Three Champs, Sends Five to Districts at Sectional 16 Meet

Regina had three individual champions and qualified five wrestlers for districts in a strong showing at the Class 1A, Sectional 16 meet on Saturday in Mediapolis.
Aidan Udell, Christopher Waikel and Ronan Poynton all won individual titles to help Regina to a third-place team finish with 153 points.
Wilton had a meet-best four individual champions and won the team title with 247 points while Wapello crowned two champs and finished runner-up with 188.
Udell started a string of three consecutive Regina champions with his title at 170 pounds.
Sixth-ranked Udell needed just 48 combined seconds to pick up a pair of first-period falls in a stroll through the 170-pound bracket.
Udell (20-3) pinned Macuen West of Wapello in 14 seconds in the semifinals and needed just 34 seconds to post a pin over Mediapolis sophomore Levi Arnold in the championship match.
Waikel (18-10) won the 182-pound title with a third-period pin of Wilton junior Karson Willey in his only match of the day after receiving a bye to the title match.
Poynton (16-2) capped the Regal title streak with a 2-1 win over top-seeded Owen Housman of Wapello in the 195-pound championship.
Sam Aitchison finished runner-up at 145 pounds to secure a spot at the district meet.
Aitchison (17-8) fell to Christophe Ewart of Wapello in the 145-pound title match but rebounded with a first-period pin of Wilton senior Cody McDonald in the wrestle back to secure a spot at districts.
Caden Shetler followed a similar patch to the district meet, dropping a 6-2 decision to Landan Provino of WACO in the 285-pound semifinals but rebounding to post a second-period pin of Colten Weaver in the wrestle back.
Regina will compete in the District 8 meet next Saturday at Wapello at Noon.
