Girls Cross Country Roundup: Solon Third in Strong Field at Season-opening Anamosa Meet

A season-opening showdown between a trio of top-six ranked squads lived up to expectations on Saturday at the Anamosa Cross Country Meet.
It was Class 2A top-ranked Mid-Prairie that opened the season on top.
Mid-Prairie put three runners in the top five, led by an individual title from freshman Danielle Hostetler to pull away from 2A second-ranked Williamsburg and 3A sixth-ranked Solon for the team title.
The Golden Hawks finished with 22 points while Williamsburg was second with 59, just four points in front of Solon.
Clear Creek Amana was fourth at the seven-team meet with 128 points.
Senior Kiersten Conway led Solon with a fifth-place finish in a time of 19:48.6 as the Spartans had all seven runners finish in the top 20.
Freshman Gracie Federspiel was 12th in 21:32.3, Mary Fiala was 14th in 21:34, Meghan O’Neill was 15th in 21:35.9 and Annika Kruse was 17th in 21:52.7.
Clear Creek Amana sophomore Haidyn Barker placed sixth in a time of 19:58.7 to pace the Clippers while Kayla Jiras finished 23td in 22:31.8.
