West High opened the season by placing fifth at its own eighth annual Trojan Blue Top Ridge Golf Tournament on Monday in Riverside.

The Trojans fired a 352 to finish five strokes in front of Liberty High at the 10-team meet at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.

Johnston had three players shoot 77 or better on its way to winning the team title with a 311.

Behind individual medalist Jack Dumas who fired a three-under-par 69 Pleasant Valley was runner-up with a 314 followed by Burlington with a 329 and Dubuque Wahlert with a 330.

Senior Andrew Tauchen paced West High with an 83 to finish 14^th while sophomore Owen Larson shot an 85 and senior Caleb Kirk carded an 88 for the Trojans.

Liberty High was led by Tate Brunk who shot an 84 to place 16^th while Ryan Schmierer shot an 88.
