Softball Roundup: Solon Hammers West Marshall in Regional Opener

Whatever positive vibes and offensive momentum Solon built up during a three-game winning streak to close the regular season seems to have followed the Spartans into the playoffs.
Solon hammered 16 hits and scored double digit runs for the fourth consecutive game on Wednesday rolling to a 13-3 six-inning win over West Marshall in a Class 3A, Region 5 quarterfinal in Solon.
The win was the fourth straight for Solon (20-13) and sends the Spartans into the Region 5 semifinals where they will face Benton Community (14-8) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Solon.
Benton Community swept Solon in a doubleheader earlier this month and advanced with a 15-2 win over Iowa Falls on Wednesday.
West Marshall (9-8) entering riding a two-game winning streak but couldn’t solve a Solon offense that is scoring better than 14 runs per game during its current four-game winning streak.
Solon scored in every inning on Wednesday and got hits from eight different players while scoring double digit runs for the 16th time in 33 games this season.
Hilary Wilson led the way going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
Sarah Heick, Jadyn Jeter, Meghan O’Neill and Camyrn Keith all had multiple hits for the Spartans.
Jeter was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored while Keith drove in a pair of runs and scored once.
Heick had a double and drove in a run and O’Neill scored once and drove in a run.
Kayla West earned the win allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out three in five innings and also had a hit and drove in two runs.
Monet Barnhouse and Peyton Sands each had a hit and scored a run.
