Softball Roundup: City High Slugs Its Way Past Cedar Falls

City High slugged its way to a sweep of Cedar Falls on Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Cedar Falls.
Ayana Lindsey spun a two-hit shutout as City High won the opener 5-0 and the Little Hawks pounded 15 hits in a 13-3 five-inning win in the nightcap.
Eight of the 21 hits for the Little Hawks in the doubleheader went for extra-bases as Class 5A fifth-ranked City High improved to 20-4 on the season and 16-2 in MVC play.
Cedar Falls dropped to 10-17 on the season and 5-15 in MVC play.
Lindsey allowed just two singles in game one, striking out seven without walking a batter and also scored a run.
Ella Cook homered and scored twice while Brooke Bormann had a double and drove in two runs.
City High exploded for 13 runs in game two hammering six doubles.
Carey Koenig led the way with three doubles and drove in three runs while Sydney Fellows was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Cook had a hit, scored twice and drove in two runs and picked up the win allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three.
Lindsey had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run and Jayden Young had two hits and drove in a run.

Liberty High Drops Doubleheader at Linn-Mar
For the second consecutive night Liberty High was on the wrong end of a walk-off win.
Chelsea Buck doubled home Rae VanMilligan with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Linn-Mar to a 4-3 win over Liberty High in the opening game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Thursday in Marion.
Linn-Mar (15-7, 13-5) completed the sweep with a 5-1 win in the nightcap as the Lions stretched their MVC winning streak to 10 in a row.
Liberty High dropped to 12-14 on the season and 11-9 in conference contests after dropping both games of a doubleheader at Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Wednesday.
Addie Schmierer went 3-for-3 and scored a run for Liberty High in the opener while Miranda Jones had a hit and drove in three runs.
Brylee Klosterman went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and drew two walks.
Kara Maiers took the loss for Liberty High allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out fiv and walking three in 6 1/3 innings.
Klosterman went 4-for-4 with a run scored in the nightcap while Ashlyn Geasland went 2-for-3 and Raquel Trolliet drove in a run.

Regals Roll at Northeast
Katie Bracken tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight to lead Class 2A seventh-ranked Regina to an 11-1 six-inning win over Northeast on Thursday in a River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in Goose Lake.
Bracken allowed just one unearned run and walked two while improving to 8-9 on the season.
Carrigan O’Conner had three hits, scored two runs and drove in two runs for Regina which improved to 10-12 on the season and 8-3 in RVC games.
Northeast dropped to 15-7 on the year and 8-7 in RVC action.
Courtney Kessler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Jess Hunter had two hits and drove in three runs for the Regals.
Jaelynn Ernst had to hits, scored two runs and drove in a run.
