Baseball Roundup: City High Splits Doubleheader at Cedar Falls

City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Falls on Friday in Cedar Falls dropping the opener 9-8 and winning the nightcap 4-0.
Reese Hayden tossed a three-hit shutout in game two as City High improved to 9-3 on the season and 7-3 in MVC play with the split.
Cedar Falls moved to 6-6 on the year and 5-6 in conference contests.
Hayden allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking two in the complete game victory.
City High provided all the run support Hayden would need by scoring in each of the first three innings.
Eight different Little Hawks had hits in the game-two win led by Liam McComas who went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in the third inning.
Garrett Borman had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run and Cade Hanrahan was 2-for-3 for City High.
In the opener City High let an 8-5 lead slip away as Cedar Falls scored four runs in the sixth inning.
Zach Kuepker went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run and drove in four runs for the Little Hawks in the opener.
Hanrahan had two hits and scored a run while DJ Heck had a hit and drove in a run and McComas and Sam Lewers each drove in a run.

West High Gets Back on Track With Sweep of Waterloo West
West High snapped a three-game losing skid with a sweep of Waterloo West on Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Waterloo.
The Trojans won the opener 9-2 and took the nightcap 13-3 in five innings to improve to 9-4 on the season and 6-4 in MVC play.
Waterloo West dropped to 4-7 and 2-6 in MVC contests.
After scoring one run during its three-game losing skid West High scored 22 runs on 23 hits on Friday.
The Trojans scored five run in the first inning of the opener and never slowed down, scoring in seven of 12 innings in the doubleheader.
Chase Calderwood had two hits and drove in two runs in game one while Ben Madden and Casey Marvin each added two hits.
Nick Biancuzzo had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice while Jason Strunk, Owen McAreavy and Marvin all drove in runs.
Ryan Cooper earned the win in game one allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight in a complete game.
West High hammered 13 hits in a 13-3 win in the nightcap with Biancuzzo leading the way with three hits, including a double and a triple and three runs.
Calderwood, McAreavy and Marcus Morgan all had two hits and drove in two runs for West High in game two while Nick Fleckenstein scored twice and Strunk doubled and scored two runs.

Linn-Mar Sweeps Liberty High
Linn-Mar swept Liberty High in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Marion on Friday winning the opener 8-7 in eight innings and taking the nightcap 12-2 in six innings.
Liberty High dropped to 5-6 on the season and 4-4 in MVC play while Linn-Mar ran its winning streak to nine straight and improved to 9-3 on the season and 7-1 in MVC action.
The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning of game one scoring the winning run when Tyler Oberbroeckling drew a bases loaded walk.
Sam Funke had three hits including a double and drove in two runs in the opener while Cayden Duhaime, Keian Secrist and Nolan Frey all had two hits for the Lightning.
Rey and Isaac Bender each scored two runs while Secrist drove in a pair of runs.
Liberty High had just one hit, a single by TJ Kimm, in a 12-2 loss in game two.
Bender drew a walk, stole two bases and scored twice for Liberty High.
