Softball Roundup: Solon Sweeps Independence

Solon swept a WAMAC doubleheader from Class 4A second-ranked Independence on Wednesday in Solon winning the opener 4-1 and taking the nightcap 7-5.
Class 3A fifth-ranked Solon improved to 9-1 on the season and 9-1 in WAMAC play with the sweep while Independence dropped to 8-7 on the season and 5-7 in WAMAC play.
Kayla West picked up the win for Solon in the opener, striking out nine in a complete-game four-hitter.
West walked one and allowed one unearned run in the second inning and also had a hit and drove in a run.
Skylar Stookey doubled, scored a run and drove in a run in the game-one win for Solon.
Eighth-grader Hilary Wilson led the way for Solon in the nightcap going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, a double and four RBI.
Stookey went 4-for-4 and drove in a run in the nightcap while Taylor Ryan went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
West picked up the win in game two, allowing just one hit in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
