Clear Creek Amana Blanks Fort Madison to Move to 3-0
Your Prep Sports
One of the few things Clear Creek Amana head coach Gabe Bakker had to be critical of during back-to-back wins to open the season was a couple of slow starts for his team.
The Clippers took care of that on Friday.
Clear Creek Amana scored on its first three drives while jumping to a 17-0 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 38-0 win over previously unbeaten Fort Madison (2-1) at Clipper Field.
Senior quarterback Andrew Rohret had a hand in all five touchdowns and Clear Creek Amana (3-0) posted its second consecutive shutout while matching its win total from last season.
Rohret rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 151 yards and three scores as the Clippers started the season 3-0 for the second time in three years.
The Clear Creek Amana defense set up the Clippers with a couple of short fields in the first half and Rohret took advantage.
Fort Madison was forced to punt on its opening possession and the Clippers marched 56 yards in nine plays, taking a 7-0 lead on a 6-yard touchdown run by Rohret.
A blocked punt on the next Fort Madison possession set up Clear Creek Amana with good field position at the Bloodhound 35 yard line.
Clear Creek had a first and goal at the Fort Madison one but settled for a 24-yard field goal by Mitch Evans that pushed the lead to 10-0.
Rohret picked off a Lennon Barker pass at the 21-yard line on the first play of the ensuing Fort Madison possession.
On the first play after the interception Rohret hooked up with 6-foot-6 senior receiver Nolan Schwarting for a 21-yard touchdown pass that pushed the lead to 17-0.
Schwarting out jumped a defensive back in the end zone for the first touchdown of his career to
Clear Creek Amana struck again before halftime when sophomore tight end TJ Bollers went high into the air to haul in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Rohret on a third-and-23 play.
The 29-yard touchdown grab was the first for of Bollers’ career and put the Clippers in front 24-0 with 3:09 left in the first half.
Clear Creek Amana wasted little time putting the game out of reach in the third quarter.
The Clippers went 66 yards in four plays on the opening possession of the second half and pushed the lead to 31-0 on a 42-yard touchdown scamper by Rohret on third-and-two.
Sam Stevens capped the scoring when he hauled in the third touchdown pass of the game by Rohret, a 22-yarder in the third quarter.
Rohret finished 13-of-16 through the air with Stevens catching five passes for 36 yards and Bollers snagging three for 50.
Schwarting finished with three receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Figueroa added 104 yards on the ground as Clear Creek Amana rushed for a season-high 228 yards while posting a season-best 393 total yards.
Senior Zach Kabbage had an interception and Rohret added a sack to go with four tackles.
Grant Jensen led a strong Clear Creek Amana defensive effort with 4.5 tackles including a tackle for loss and sophomore Arron Feinberg had three tackles for loss.
Sam Noska added a tackle for loss as the Clippers posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since blanking Maquoketa and Center Point-Urbana in weeks four and five of the 2016 season.
