Adam Bock is versatile enough to play a starring role on both sides of the ball and on special teams for the Solon football team.

A South Dakota State linebacker recruit that doubles as a running back, H back or slot receiver the senior also kicks off and punts.

Bock could do even more.

“Honestly, he could play outside receiver or he could play offensive guard if we asked him to do that,” Solon coach Kevin Miller said. “He is that versatile and he is that coachable and he’s that smart.”

With performances like the one he turned in on Friday there isn’t much chance Bock will be moving to offensive line any time soon.

Bock scored four touchdowns, two rushing and two receiving to lead Class 3A third-ranked Solon to a 47-10 win over Marion (1-2) in a non-district contest at Spartan Stadium.

“He is so versatile,” Miller said of Bock. “Obviously on offense he can play running back, he can inside receiver he can play H back. We move him all over the place just to utilize his various abilities. He can run it he can catch it he can block. I know he is a defensive specialist but he is an offensive player as well that can make plays.”

Bock did it all for Solon (3-0) on Friday. 

The 6-foot, 205-pound Bock rushed for 94 yards on 11 carries and had touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards.

He also caught touchdown passes for 7 and 17 yards and had 11 tackles including nine solo stops as Solon ran its regular season winning streak to 19.

“We had everybody running to the ball and that is huge,” Bock said. “When you have 11 guys running to the ball it’s tough to move the ball.”

A week after needing overtime to escape with a 7-0 win over West Liberty Bock helped Solon put the game away before halftime.

Bock scored three first-half touchdowns as Solon scored touchdowns on each of its first five drives.

Marion went 3-and-out on the opening possession of the game and Cam Miller connected with Coal Flansburg for an 8-yard touchdown pass to put Solon up 7-0 with 7:58 left in the first half.

Following a Dillon Hoit interception on the ensuing Marion possession Miller hit Bock for a 7-yard touchdown to make it 14-0 Solon just more than five minutes into the game.

“That was big,” Miller said of the start. “We had a short field and we capitalized and that is always going to be our trademark is defense. We build our team around defense and offensively we have some playmakers.”

Bock scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and added a 17-yard touchdown reception that pushed the Solon lead to 27-0.

Hunter Kula ripped off a 41-yard touchdown run that made it 34-0 Solon midway through the second quarter.

“I was pleased with our offense,” Miller said. “I thought we did some nice things on offense, we were able to run the football, mix it up with the pass and overall I was pleased with our execution.”

Hoit and Ryan Geistkemper each set up Solon touchdowns with interceptions as Solon held Marion without a first down until late in the first half.

The Indians played without starting quarterback Trevor Paulsen who was dressed but missed the game with an injury.

“They are without their best player and we have to be honest when you are without your best player it changes the dynamics of your team,” Miller said. “It just does and he is (their best player) there is no doubt about he’s an outstanding football player. I’m extremely impressed by him and when your leader goes down that changes the complexion of your team.”

Kula had 103 rushing yards, all in the first half, as Solon finished with 255 yards on the ground.

Miller was 9-of-14 passing for 153 yards and three touchdowns as the Spartans finished with better than 400 yards of total offense.

“We just did a better job tonight of executing,” Kevin Miller said. “We still were not clean, we had a number of penalties but those are things that we can improve upon and build upon.”

Hunter Brown had a sack and a tackle for loss in the win.
