Volleyball Roundup: City High, Solon Get Conference Sweeps

City High picked up its first conference victory of the season on Tuesday and the Littles Hawks did so in impressive fashion.
Class 5A No. 13 City High snapped a two-game MVC skid to open the season with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-19 sweep of Cedar Rapids Washington in a Mississippi Division matchup in Cedar Rapids.
City High improved to 5-4 on the season and 1-2 in MVC play while Cedar Rapids Washington dropped to 1-7 and 0-3.
Ellie Evans had a team-high 11 kills for City High while Mackenzie Murphy added eight kills and Kelsey Law had seven kills and 15 digs.
Lindsey Bolton had 17 assists and Makayla Ribble added 16 assists.
Liberty High Falls to Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Liberty High had a five-match winning streak snapped with a four-set loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy Tuesday in a Mississippi Valley Conference contest in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy improved to 5-5 on the season and 2-1 in MVC play with a 25-23, 25-10, 25-22, 25-23 win over the Lightning in a Valley Division matchup.
Class 4A No. 9 Liberty High dropped to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in MVC play with its first loss since a season-opening setback to Cedar Rapids Xavier.
LeeAnn Potter had a match-high 25 kills and added 10 digs to lead Liberty High while freshman Sydney Woods added 10 kills and a team-high 14 digs.
Gabbie Schroeder had 14 digs and six ace serves while Addie Schmierer had 12 digs and Lauren Roman had eight kills.
Hailey Hested had 40 assists and 12 digs in the loss.
Fourth-Ranked CR Jefferson Sweeps West High
Class 5A No. 4 Cedar Rapids Jefferson remained perfect in Mississippi Valley Conference play with a 25-18, 26-24, 25-17 win over No. 12 West High on Tuesday in a Valley Division tilt in Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson improved to 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in MVC play while West High dropped to 3-8 and 1-2 in conference matches.
Solon Sweeps Mount Vernon
Solon continued its strong start to the season with a 26-24, 25-23, 28-26 sweep of Class 3A No. 11 Mount Vernon on Tuesday in a WAMAC East Division showdown in Mount Vernon.
The Spartans improved to 8-3 on the season and are now 1-0 in WAMAC East play while Mount Vernon dropped to 6-4 and 0-2 in WAMAC East Division matches.
