Volleyball Roundup: City High Bounces Back With Win Over No. 15 Johnston

City High didn’t need long to bounce back from its season-opening loss to West High.
Class 5A seventh-ranked City High (1-1) responded from its loss to cross-town rival West High on Tuesday with a four-set win over No. 15 Johnston (1-1) on Thursday in a non-conference contest at City High.
Senior Ellie Evans had a career-high 18 kills and added 13 digs as City High rallied from an opening set loss for a 24-26, 25-23, 25-7, 25-23 win over the Dragons.
Kelsey Law had 12 kills and 11 digs and Mackenzie Murphy added seven kills and three blocks in the win.
Lindsey Bolton had 20 assists for the Little Hawks.
Clippers Drop Two at Season-Opening Quad
Class 4A seventh-ranked Clear Creek Amana dropped a pair of matches at the season-opening WAMAC quadrangular at Center Point-Urbana on Thursday.
Solon defeated Clear Creek Amana 25-17, 25-23 and Class 3A No. 12 Mount Vernon downed the Clippers 25-18, 16-25, 15-13.
The Spartans finished 1-1 falling to Class 3A sixth-ranked Center Point-Urbana 25-21, 25-12 to go with its win over Clear Creek Amana.
Shauntina Williams and Hailey Pollock each had seven kills to lead Clear Creek Amana against Mount Vernon while Calia Clubb added four kills and three ace serves.
Cheyaenne Bunch had 19 assists and Jordan Neely had 11 digs.
In the loss to Solon Williams and Clubb each had six kills to pace CCA.
Bunch had 16 assists and Neely added 11 digs.
West Goes 1-2 at MAC-MVC Shootout
Class 5A tenth-ranked West High went 1-2 at the MAC-MVC Shootout on Thursday at West High.
West High defeated Bettendorf (23-21, 21-13) and fell to North Scott (21-19, 17-21, 16-14) and No. 12 Pleasant Valley 21-16, 21-17.
The MAC won five of nine matches over the MVC with North Scott and Pleasant Valley each going 2-1.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy went 2-1 with wins over Bettendorf and North Scott.
