Half of a Solon linebacker tandem that ranks among the best in the state had mapped out its future when Coal Flansburg committed to Iowa State last spring.
The other half of that duo locked down their college plans on Sunday.
Solon senior to be and the Spartans top tackler from a season ago Adam Bock announced his commitment to South Dakota State on Sunday via Twitter.
“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to play football at South Dakota State,” Bock wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank everyone that has helped me achieve a lifelong dream. Big things in store for this group!!”
Bock and Flansburg were the top two tacklers on a Solon defense that produced a historical statistical season last fall.
Solon posted six shutouts and held opponents to 6.0 points and 154 total yards per game.
Bock was at the center of that stout Spartan defense.
The 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker made a team-high 71.5 tackles, including a team-best 45 solo stops, and was responsible for five of the Spartans’ 33 forced turnovers.
Bock had two interceptions and recovered three fumbles, returning one of each for a touchdown.
A versatile athlete that also competes in wrestling, track and baseball, Bock was a jack-of-all trades for the Spartans last season.
In addition to leading the team in tackles Bock racked up 510 yards from scrimmage as a running back, ranking third on the team in both rushing and receiving yards.
Bock average nine yards per carry while rushing for 215 yards and two scores and caught 21 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns.
He also averaged 39.7 yards per punt and had 12 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Bock was a regular at 195 pounds for the Solon wrestling team that finished sixth at the 2A state dual tournament and was a state track qualifier on the Spartans’ 4×100, 4×200 and sprint medley relay teams.
This summer Bock is batting .308 with a pair of home runs as a catcher on Solon’s fourth-ranked baseball team.
A member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, South Dakota State was 11-3 and reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs last season.
