City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Xavier on Monday at Mercer Park winning the opener 4-2 and falling 7-5 in the nightcap.
The Little Hawks moved to 13-9 on the season and 7-7 in MVC play while Xavier is now 14-9 on the year and 9-5 in conference games.
Brady Herzic tossed six shutout innings in the opener for City High allowing five hits and walking three while striking out two.
DJ Heck had two hits and drove in and run and scored a run for the Little Hawks while Cole Milder had a hit and two RBI.
Zach Kuepker had two hits while Sam Lewers had a double and scored a run for City High in the win.
Quenton Max took the loss in the nightcap allowing six runs, on two hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Travis Reyhons had two hits and an RBI in the nightcap while Milder went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Kuepker had two hits including a double and scored a run while Heck had a hit and drove in two runs.

Solon Slugs Its Way Past Tipton
Luke Ira and Spencer Wegmann homered to help Solon put up a season-high scoring output in a 20-3 win over Tipton on Monday in a non-conference tilt in Solon.
Ira was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI while Wegmann had two hits including a homer and drove in four runs as Class 3A seventh-ranked Solon improved to 17-6 on the season.
Tipton dropped to 5-10 on the season with its 10th consecutive loss.
Solon exploded for 11 runs in the third inning to break open a 6-2 game.
Payton Bandy and Zach Wegmann each went 3-for-3 to lead Solon as eight different Spartans had hits in the win.
Bandy scored three runs and drove in two while Zach Wegmann had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Cam Miller and Chris McSweeney each had a double and drove in two runs while Adam Bock had a hit and an RBI.
Sophomore Lucas Walker picked up the win, allowing three unearned runs on four hits while striking out five.

Wins Wins Opener in Rain-Shortened Doubleheader
Class 4A sixth-ranked West High scored seven runs in the first inning and rolled to a 15-4 five-inning win over Cedar Rapids Jefferson in the first game of a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader on Monday in Iowa City.
Game two was suspended by rain in the second inning with Jefferson leading 2-1 and will be resumed on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
West High bolted to a 9-0 run in the opener and never slowed down.
Lucas Karwal went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI to pace the West High attack.
Jayson Barnes homered and drove in six runs while Austin Curtiss had two hits and three RBI in the win.
Noah Aanestad earned the win allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out three in four innings.
West High improved to 17-5 on the season and 9-4 in MVC play while Jefferson dropped to 14-6 and 99-4 in MVC play.
