A year ago City High was outscored 25-2 while being swept in a season-opening doubleheader.
What a difference a year makes.
City High scored 21 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Dubuque Wahlert on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams at City High.
The Little Hawks took game one 7-3 behind a strong pitching performance from freshman Ayana Lindsey and won the nightcap 14-4 in five innings.
Lindsey struck out 11 in a complete game six-hitter and went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases in the opener.
Brooke Bormann had a home run and went 2-for-3 and Ella Cook and Keli Potter each went 2-for-4 in the game-one win.
Briana Bentler had a double and Sydney Fellows drove in two runs in the opener.
In game two Cook picked up the win allowing three earned runs on three hits in four innings and also went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and three stolen bases.
Lindsey went 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases and Fellows went 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Potter went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs, Cary Koenig walked three times and scored three times and Bentler scored three runs
Hempstead Sweeps West High
Dubuque Hempstead swept West High in a season-opening doubleheader on Tuesday at West High winning game one 14-4 and taking the nightcap 13-4.
