After posting one of the best individual seasons in program history and leading Liberty High to its second consecutive state tournament appearance Evan Schmierer has picked up a long list of well-earned postseason accolades.

The Liberty High senior second baseman added yet another honor to that list on Thursday.

Schmierer was named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches all-state super team when the organization released its postseason awards.

Schmierer was the second base pick on the 19-member super team that honors the top players in the state from all four classes.

A three-year starter, Schmierer ranked in the top five in Class 4A in batting average, hits and stolen bases while helping Liberty High to a 26-17 record and a 4A state tournament berth.

Schmierer batted .496 with 16 extra-base hits, 45 runs, 30 RBI and 40 stolen bases while drawing 21 walks and posting an on-base percentage of .577 and a 1.241 OPS.

Schmierer headlined a list of 12 Your Prep Sports area athletes to be named to an IHSBCA all-state squad.

Liberty High junior Eric Strunk was named to the Class 4A third team as a third baseman.

Strunk batted .392 with 12 extra-base hits, 38 runs and a team-high 31 RBI while posting a .991 OPS.

City High had a pair of players earn all-state honors in Class 4A as senior pitcher Adam Bowman was a second team pick and senior outfielder Paxton Bell was named to the 4A third team.

Bowman went 7-0 with a 1.55 ERA and .92 WHIP while striking out 72 in 58 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .180 batting average against.

Bell batted .369 with 14 extra-base hits, 38 runs scored 22 RBI and 38 stolen bases with a .999 OPS and also went 5-3 with a 3.42 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched.

Clear Creek Amana had three players named to the Class 3A all-state teams.

Senior pitcher Blayne Roberts and junior third baseman Luke Young were named to the 3A second team and sophomore outfielder Texton Bollers was a third team pick in 3A.

Roberts posted a 6-0 record and 1.56 ERA with an .84 WHIP and .124 batting average against while striking out 88 in 45 innings pitched.

Young batted .392 with 16 extra-base hits, three home runs, 32 runs and 29 RBI with a 1.153 OPS.

Bollers batted .364 with eight home runs, 13 extra-base hits, 32 runs, 32 RBI and 20 stolen bases.

Solon had a pair of all-state selections in Class 3A.

Sophomore outfielder Luke Merrick was named to the 3A first team and sophomore pitcher Tate Miller was a third team pick in 3A.

Merrick batted .396 with 23 extra-base hits, 11 home runs, 43 RBI and 45 runs scored while posting a 1.368 OPS.

Miller went 8-0 with a 1.41 ERA and 1.17 WHIP while striking out 59 and walking 22 in a team-high 54 2/3 innings pitched.

Regina had two players earn all-state honors in Class 2A and West Branch had one 2A all-state selection.

Regina junior Will Litton earned 2A first team honors as a utility pick while junior outfielder Brady Venzon was named to the third team.

West Branch junior third baseman Garrett Sotzen was named to the 2A second team.

Litton went 5-1 with a .93 ERA and .96 WHIP with 60 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched and also batted .449 with 10 extra-base hits, two home runs, 25 runs and 31 RBI.

Venzon batted .426 with 34 runs, 19 RBI and 13 stolen bases while posting a .985 OPS.

Sotzen batted .552 with 20 extra-base hits, six home runs, 42 RBI, 46 runs and 35 stolen bases to go with a 1.487 OPS.
