One of the top back row players in the state has found her future volleyball home.
And she didn’t have to go far to find it.
West High junior libero Izzie McDonald announced her commitment to Iowa with a post on social media.
“After a lot of prayers I am thrilled to announce that I will continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Iowa,” McDonald wrote on a post on Instagram. “This is an extraordinary opportunity and I just wanted to thank everyone who had helped me achieve this dream today.”
McDonald emerged as one of the top back row players in the state last season with a strong sophomore season in which she ranked in the top 10 in Class 5A in digs while helping West High to a 27-6 record and a spot in the 5A state quarterfinals.
The 5-foot-4 McDonald ranked seventh in 5A in both digs (410) and digs per set (4.7) while helping West High reach the state tournament for the first time since 2016.
A second team Mississippi Valley Conference all-division selection last season, McDonald added 31 ace serves for the Trojans last season.
