Solon senior Spencer Michels earned a spot at the state cross country meet with a top-15 finish at the Class 3A state qualifier at Hart Ridge Golf Course in Manchester on Wednesday.

Michels finished 15^th in a time of 17:07.73 to qualify as an individual for the 3A state meet scheduled for October 31 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

Third-ranked Mount Vernon/Lisbon won the team title on Wednesday with 27 points followed by Decorah with 68 and Western Dubuque with 102.

Dubuque Wahlert was fourth with 133 and Solon finished fifth with 146.

Rene Meza placed 19^th in a time of 17:13.32 and Anders Holmes finished 31^st in 17:52.16 for the Spartans.

Deacon Waddell finished 38^th in 18:05.18 and Owen Young placed 43^rd in 18:24.72.
