Cash Hatfield, Cooper Gates and Tate Frantz all won individual titles to lead West Branch to a runner-up finish at the John Byers Invitational on Saturday at Midland High School in Wyoming.

West Branch had eight players finish in the top five on Saturday while racking up 172 points.

Southeast Polk won the team title with 288.5 points followed by West Branch and Dubuque Senior with 133 points.

Hatfield (16-2) went 4-0 with a pair of tech falls on his way to the 144-pound title.

Class 1A sixth-ranked Hatfield won a 10-4 decision over Kaden Keomala of Southeast Polk in the 144-pound title match.

No. 10 ranked Gates (26-3) rolled to the 165-pound title posting a tech fall and a pair of first-period pins.

Gates needed 1:12 to pin Maurice Willis of Dubuque Senior in the championship match.

No. 11 Tate Frantz (27-7) defeated ninth-ranked Anthony Harrington of Midland 4-3 in the 190-pound championship match.

Logan Christoffel (28-10) finished third at 132 pounds and Keaton Gates (28-14) placed third at 150 pounds for the Bears.

Gabe Depoorter (13-18) finished fourth at 126 pounds, Elliott Montgomery (8-15) finished fifth at 106 pounds and Maddux Rushton (15-14) finished fifth at 157 pounds.
