A 4-1 start to 2025 that includes wins over three ranked teams has pushed Solon into the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association basketball rankings.

Solon (7-5)  made its season debut in the IGHSAU on Thursday at No. 15 in Class 3A following a 51-50 win over previously Class 4A No. 14 Marion on Tuesday.

The Spartans have gone 4-1 in January with wins over Mid-Prairie, Monticello and Marion which were all ranked when Solon defeated them.

Solon is one of six area teams in the most recent rankings.

Regina (11-1) remained third in the Class 2A rankings with its only loss to Class 3A top-ranked Mount Vernon.

West High (9-4) is ninth in Class 5A, followed by City High (9-4) at No. 10 and Liberty High (8-3) at No. 12.

City High and West High each climbed three spots from last week’s rankings while Liberty High dropped two spots.

Clear Creek Amana (6-5) climbed two spots to No. 14 in the Class 4A rankings.

Other top-ranked teams this week included Johnston in Class 5A, Sioux City Heelan in Class 4A, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in Class 2A and Council Bluffs St. Albert in Class 1A.
