Fifth-ranked Wilton Pulls Away From West Branch in Second Half

Class 1A fifth-ranked Wilton scored touchdowns on its first three drives of the second half to break open a tight game at the half on its way to a 39-20 win over West Branch on Friday at the Little Rose Bowl.
Wilton improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in Class 1A, District 5 play while West Branch dropped to 2-5 and 1-3 in district play.
Wilton led 12-7 at the half but the Beavers scored on touchdown drives of 12, two and six plays to open the second half while building a 33-13 lead.
Connor Rios completed 8-of-9 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown and Nolan Staker was 12-of-18 passing for 125 yards with a touchdown and also rushed for a touchdown for the Bears.
Cooper Gates caught five passes for 44 yards and also rushed for 31 yards and Brandon Pedersen caught three passes for 32 yards and two touchdowns.
Nathan Hills had four receptions for 43 yards and Oliver Trepanier had four catches for 42 yards.
Conner Capper had eight tackles to lead West Branch while Tate Frantz had four tackles including 2.5 for loss and a sack.
Jarrett Ellyson had 3.5 tackles and an interception.
