Last season ended with a bang for City High in the form of a seventh-place finish at the Class 4A state meet.

The Little Hawks picked up where they left off last fall on Thursday.

City High shot a 296 to finish tied with Dubuque Wahlert for the top spot at the season-opening Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet at Gardner Golf Course in Cedar Rapids.

Junior Jack Rogers fired a four-under par 68 to earn medalist honors and sophomore Henry Birt shot a three-over 75 to finish 10^th as City High had four players shoot 77 or better on Thursday.

Rogers, who was fourth at the state meet last season as a sophomore, closed with a three-under 33 on the back nine on Thursday and finished three strokes in front of three golfers that all carded a 71.

Birt shot a 37 on the back nine to card a 75 while senior Nick Meredith and freshman Will Feagler each shot 77 for City High.

City High and Dubuque Wahlert each shot 296 and were one stroke better than Linn-Mar and six shots clear of Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Xavier which each shot 302.

West High was eighth at the 15-team Super Meet with a 311 while Liberty High finished 12^th with a 323.

Jack MacLagan shot a one-over-par 73 to lead West High finishing in seventh place while Emery Crawford and Isaac Wendt each shot 709 and Jack Jensen and Tate Genkinger each shot 80 for the Trojans.

Liberty High was led by Brooks Anderson who shot a 70 while Regan Kopecky and Kade Baxter each shot an 81.
