West High Senior Forward McCaffery Commits to Butler

One of the top players in state has made a decision on his basketball future.
West High senior forward Jack McCaffery has committed to Butler choosing the Bulldogs over a long list of college programs.
McCaffery is coming off an impressive junior season in which he earned second-team all-state honors from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association after leading West High to a 19-4 record and a spot in the Class 4A substate finals.
The 6-foot-8 McCaffery led West High in scoring, rebounding, assists and blocked shots as a junior and also had team-highs in free throw makes and attempts and was second on the team in made 3-pointers.
A uniquely skilled big man, McCaffery shot a career-best 48.7 points from the field and 80.5 from the free throw line last season while averaging 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 blocked shots per game.
As a sophomore McCaffery averaged 16 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.9 blocked shots per game.
McCaffery’s older brother Patrick McCaffery, a former West High all-stater, transferred to Butler for his final collegiate season after spending five seasons at Iowa.
